Alcaraz Wins French Open Title
A Hard-Fought Victory
Carlos Alcaraz has won his first French Open men's singles title at Roland Garros. The 19-year-old Spaniard defeated third-seeded Alexander Zverev of Germany 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 in the final on Sunday.
Alcaraz became the youngest men's singles champion at the French Open since Rafael Nadal in 2005. He is also the first Spanish man to win the title since Nadal in 2014.
A Scrappy Performance
Zverev started the match strongly and had break points in the opening game, but Alcaraz saved them and broke Zverev's serve in the next game. Alcaraz won the first set 6-4 and the second set 6-4.
Zverev fought back in the third set and broke Alcaraz's serve in the first game. However, Alcaraz broke back immediately and then broke Zverev's serve again in the seventh game. Alcaraz served out the match to win 6-2.
A Deserving Winner
Alcaraz was the better player on the day. He hit more winners than Zverev and made fewer unforced errors. He also served well, winning 71% of his first serve points.
Zverev said after the match that Alcaraz was a deserving winner. "He played better than me today," Zverev said. "He's a great player and he's going to be a force in tennis for many years to come."
