French Elections: Left-Wing Surge Stuns Macron
Unexpected Support Propels Left-Wing Parties
France's legislative elections witnessed a remarkable surge in support for left-wing parties, with the left-wing alliance NUPES projected to win 130-150 seats. The far-left party La France Insoumise (LFI) alone is expected to secure 80-100 seats, becoming the largest opposition party in the National Assembly.
Macron's Ensemble Party Falls Short
President Emmanuel Macron's centrist party, Ensemble, had initially been favored to win the largest share of seats but came in second place. Ensemble is now projected to win 150-170 seats, which is significantly lower than its projected 250-300 seats.
